Video + Commentary: "70% of America's Beef is Treated With Ammonia"
January 27, 2012
On a scale of healthy eaters, I probably weigh in at a measly 6, with 10 being the highest possible score. But I’ve been trying to correct that by cutting junk from my diet and eating more fruits and vegetables. So when I post this, realize that I’m just an average guy, trying to eat better and help my family live better.
And I’m sorry if you’re a vegetarian. You’ll definitely want to avoid this article and video…
About fifteen minutes ago I watched a video called “70% of America’s Beef is Treated with Ammonia”, and it’s equal parts really eye-opening and really sickening.
The premise is that someone, somewhere, figured out you could take all the parts of the cow that aren’t supposed to be edible by humans, grind them up, separate the sinew from the fat and then rinse them in ammonia to make them “edible”. And then, unfortunately, since it’s a process and not an ingredient the beef companies don’t have to label it or acknowledge it at all.
From there, the meat is distributed to places like schools for your kids to eat. Apparently even McDonalds backed out of using this kind of meat in the last little while.
So here’s the video, try not to feel ill…
