I have been experimenting with color lately, specifically pushing myself to work with color schemes I wouldn’t have used before. As a result, I created this application to help me visualize color schemes as I create them. But a coworker of mine, Ryan, suggested that it might be a good idea to combine my last project “Faded“ with this one. In doing that, it provides a way to visualize the colors and receive suggestions as well.

To begin, type six hexadecimal values into the boxes on the left of the screen. They don’t necessarily have to be different ones, but those that don’t have a value will display as white.

When you hit “update” the color will be placed randomly into a series of squares. It will also show you four variations, based on the hexadecimal value you provided. If you like one of the suggested colors, click on it and press “update” to see that color instead.

If the design isn’t random enough, or the design is too random, you can click on a particular box to change its color.
